As insane as it even seems to type, electronic innovator and longtime homeboy of the Warp Records stable, Squarepusher, will be releasing his next record on the home of all things noisy and French, Ed Banger.
As reported by Fact, the curious convergence of worlds will be released on Ed Banger later this month bearing the title of Squarepusher presents Shobaleader One, with a track called Cryptic Motion, complete with a remix from reliable Ed Banger jammer Mr Oizo.
While the pairing may seem like an odd one, we reckon it’s just the first sign of change for the typically-electro French label following comments from label boss Busy P to ITM last month saying that he was sick of the “stage-diving” antics that had developed in the scene over the years.
Backing up those words, Busy P wrote into The Daily Swarm regarding the Squarepusher release, explaining that he’s been a fan of Squarepusher and Warp as a label for yonks now and has always wanted to collaborate on a release.
“Squarepusher will release only this single with us. He will always be a WARP artist. I am really proud of this collab with Warp…they came to me with this record and I am more than happy to release it on Ed,” the label boss wrote. “I’ve been a big fan of Warp and i think Squarepusher fits pretty well on our roster. I like adventures and i hope we’ll surprise people with this one! [sic]”
If part of Busy P’s diversity plan is releasing Squarepusher records and putting on awesome live shows then we’re all for this new phase of Ed Banger! What do you think?
