!K7’s DJ KiCKS series has achieved greatness by giving free rein to its chosen compilers, and who better to entrust than Apparat? The German virtuoso will release his entry to the canon in October, following recent editions from Kode9 and James Holden.

As expected from Apparat, the track-list is not without its brooding moments, but there’s plenty of buzz and colour too. “The mix isn’t that balanced when it comes to melody I guess,” he remarks in the press spiel. “There’s a lot of sweetness on there, but it is dark and mysterious at points. I guess the bittersweet-ness has long been kind of my thing and with this mix I was just trying to spice it up a bit.”

In what seems to be a DJ KiCKS tradition, two exclusive productions from the man’s studio are included. Burial and Four Tet’s slow-burning collaboration from 2009 Moth is there too, alongside other masters of mood like Pantha Du Prince, Telefon Tel Aviv and Martyn.

So, is this enough of a reason to hope for another audience with Apparat following his brilliant live shows back in April? We wait in hope!
