It’s like an event of biblical proportions whenever French legends Daft Punk get around to releasing a new record of material, but the duo’s next album is set to be met with even more giddy excitement and expectation as it finds the robo-duo stretching themselves with their very first film score, composed as the soundtrack to Disney’s upcoming tech-epic Tron Legacy.
While earlier reports indicated that we’d see the finished product of their score in stores on November 23rd, Universal have now issued a revised date of November 26th as the official dropping day. That’s a painfully long three days, wethinks.
As if the gods of coincidence are smiling upon us, the news comes the day that one lucky ITM staffer (*ahem, me*) returns from a weekend trip over to the US to attend a super-sized media day for Tron Legacy. While we can’t reveal too much about what we saw on the day without some Disney goons breaking our thumbs, we can sat that we saw a good chunk of the film and heard a similarly awesome chunk of Daft Punk’s score. In short it sounds incredible. And we now know that it’s 100% done, with the orchestral portions of it being finished in London just last week.
What’s more, the cast and crew behind the film gushed about their love of the French duo and praised their involvement in the film, describing the duo’s Tron Legacy score as a ‘cyber opera’. We’ll have more from our trip into Tron very soon so stay tuned…
