When it rains it pours and today we’ve got a tidal wave of fresh news surrounding ITM’s favourite robots Daft Punk and the duo’s involvement in Disney’s upcoming tech-epic Tron Legacy.

As well composing the soundtrack for the 3D feature – the duo’s first studio recorded output since 2005’s Human After All, of course – there was chatter last year that the French cyborgs themselves would appear in the film with a cameo appearance. That was confirmed when ITM went over to Los Angeles for a sneak peek at Tron Legacy, but today we’ve got the first public look at Daft Punk’s appearance in the Tron world along with their brand new outfits designed specifically for the film.

Foregoing their classic leather look for something more suited to the neon-scorched Tron environment, Daft Punk are now rocking some bright lights and electric blues with their new attire. What’s more they’ve also got some fancy new helmets!

“They wanted to maintain their image, as they should, but they were also really excited about doing a Tron version of their look,” Tron Legacy’s costume designer Christine Bieselin Clark said of working with the French duo in ITM’s exclusive interview. “We did do leathers, we did do things that were very Daft Punk, but then we put the whole Tron stamp on it and they couldn’t have been happier about how it turned out. We just did a photo-shoot with them and it’s so funny, they seem really excited to just be in the suits. They love it.”

Another juicy drop of content to emerge today is an official – as opposed to all those soundtrack leaks – 90-second clip of a new Daft Punk tune from the film entitled The Game Has Changed. You can only check it out on the Disney Facebook page, so have a listen over there.

While that’s all pretty great news for a Wednesday morning there has been a reported set-back with the release of Daft Punk’s score for Tron Legacy. Having shifted from an earlier date to November 26th, Disney and distributor Universal Music are now listing December 8th as the new release date. Hurry up already!
