When UK buzz duo La Roux come to mind they’re most likely followed images of factory grade hair wax supplies, puffy jackets and Yaz ripping neon synthesizers. Bawm bawm, wrong! Apparently that schtick is played and La Roux are moving onto greener pastures because, at least according to them, ‘synth music is over’.
Cutting their own legs off in a recent interview with Spinner Music, the band’s duckbill-quiffed lead singer Elly Jackson said that after a year riding the neon wave she’s now ‘done’ playing with synthesizers.
“I don’t want to make synth music for the rest of my fucking life,” Jackson raged. “It was a time when I was into that, but whatever, it’s done with, it’s gone. The whole genre is so over. It was my thing and I’m bored with it. If I see anything more ‘80s-themed, I’m going to bust.”
Sounds to us like she got a little tired of sharing the retro-spotlight with the slew of other crossover acts to pick up a Korg and figured she’d shit on the whole party. Fans of the ‘old’ La Roux sound can now expect the group’s next album to sound more ‘human’ and ‘warmer’. Cool story.
