It was with a heavy heart that inthemix broke the news last year that parent company Panasonic would be closing down the production of Technics turntables. In all the hoopla surrounding that story it turned out that Technics’ death knell was preemptive, with Panasonic spokespeople turning around to deny the death of Technics.
Nearly one year on from that original warning siren and it looks as though Technics’ time may indeed be up, with new reports claiming the end is at hand for the clubbing staple.
As picked up by The Daily Swarm, Japanese news outlet The Tokyo Reporter is reporting that Panasonic has chosen to discontinue the Technics line in light of increasingly dwindling sales of the famous decks.
“On October 20, the company said that it was winding down production of the Technics SL-1200MK6 analog turntable, the SH-EX1200 analog audio mixer and the RP-DH1200 and RP-DJ1200 stereo headphones due to challenges in the marketplace,” the report read.
The site was also issued a statement from Panasonic seemingly confirming the demise of Technics, saying “Panasonic decided to end production mainly due to a decline in demand for these analog products and also the growing difficulty of procuring key analog components necessary to sustain production.”
Considering that Japan is the home of the technology giant we can only assume that this end to production of Technics products will be wide-sweeping. Time to pour one out and hug your decks close.
