Renowned Detroit troublemaker Seth Troxler was last out in these parts for a typically loose tour with the We Love Sounds and Winter Sound System festivals in winter, but he’s making waves again with some biting comments made at a few of his contemporaries in the techno scene, in particular German duo Modeselektor.
The saucy Friday drama comes from an interview with Troxler published by The Drone and seen on XLR8R, wherein the Detroit dude rambles at length about his balls, the popularity of the Detroit scene and the stuck-up attitudes of DJs.
“For me, techno, this whole thing…it’s a really big joke, y’know,” Troxler began in the interview, lamenting the self-seriousness of the scene. “I think it’s funny to see people who take it hyper seriously. A lot of people are totally spoiled in this, y’know. Every weekend you get to go some beautiful place, you’re in this nice hotel, you make some easy money, and people are super nice to you and then where do you come off being like a dick? Y’know? It doesn’t make any sense to me. It’s like, ‘yo, your life is perfect! Don’t be a fucking diva’.”
Taking his rant to the next level, Troxler then goes on to name the DJs that have rubbed him the wrong way, citing Modeselektor in particular as an offending party.
“I really hate it sometimes when you’re with a bunch of techno people – I call it ‘Techno Dinner’ – and it’s all the guys talking about ‘oh I was here this weekend’…and the conversation is always the same. I remember we were at this dinner and Modeselektor came, and the one guy, I think he was like the bald one, was on and on about how great he is…I was just like ‘shut the fuck up, no one fucking cares!’. We’re all people here, let’s talk about some real and normal. Like, ‘great, cool, your driver yesterday sucked, fucking pat on the back, brother’.”
