While cartoon super-group Gorillaz will be down here next month on the Escape To Plastic Beach tour promoting the album of the same name, local fans could very well have a whole new album of Gorillaz material by then if Damon Albarn has his way.
As reported by NME, the Gorillaz mastermind has been working on a new album under the animated-band banner, apparently writing the record on his iPad while on tour across the United States. Can we hope for a feature from The iPad DJ?
“I’ve made it on an iPad—I hope I’ll be making the first record on an iPad. I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so I’ve made a completely different kind of record,” Albarn said, perhaps fishing for some endorsement dollars from Apple. “It’s ironic, being the sort of technophobe and Luddite that I am.”
Discussing release date possibilities for the unconventional record, Albarn teased that he hopes to have it out “before Christmas”. Sounds good to us.
In the meantime, add yourself to the roll call if you’re heading along to any of the Gorillaz arena shows this summer!
