A surprise – in a good way – inclusion for the 2011 Big Day Out lineup was none other than Brazilian party crew CSS, returning to Australia after the band’s last visit in 2009. While we haven’t heard much from the band since then and the album they were promoting – 2008’s Donkey – the band have confirmed that they’ll have plenty of new material to preview off their nearly completed third album.

Speaking to inthemix from the band’s Brazil HQ, CSS wild-girl Lovefoxxx confirmed that the band would soon be putting the finishing touches on their next LP, explaining that they had been ‘reworking’ the record recently.

“We were all done with and everything but then we decided to go back in and rework it and now it sounds even better,” the excitable singer exclaimed. “We never want to make the same record twice so this one will have a lot of new things on there…this time we weren’t even thinking about how we would perform the songs live, we were just making them sound really big in the studio,” she added. “Some songs don’t even have guitars, they’re just done on keyboards.”

Discussing the themes on the as yet untitled record, Lovefoxxx revealed that a source of inspiration behind her lyrics has been re-reading her old diaries from the singer’s teenage years. “I love them! There is something about being a teenager that I connected with when I read them again – when you’re a kid you don’t think twice about anything, you live in that moment and it’s really intense,” she enthused.

As well as some teenage romance jams, Lovefoxxx said fans can expect a lot of “bad-ass” lyrics in true CSS, promising to give fans a taste of the new record when they come back to Australia for the Big Day Out festival and a handful of sideshows presented by inthemix.
