What usually comes to mind when you think about Ibiza? Marathon parties? Big clubs like Space, Pacha and Privilege? DJ stars? WRONG! It’s of course US rap tycoon Diddy that is synonymous with the Spanish party island! Well that’s according to the man himself at least.
The boasts come from a typically hilarious interview that the rapper and producer gave to NY Mag in which states the genesis of his latest album under the group moniker Diddy Dirty Money, Last Train To Paris, stems from his time spent at Ibiza’s iconic DC-10 club.
“The vision [for Last Train To Paris started from hearing different sounds in Ibiza, at DC-10. There’s a lot of different dance clubs in Ibiza, but DC-10 — the way that the drums are syncopated, the percussion — it’s totally different from any club in the world. It opened my mind up to the fact that there’s something more than the four on the floor,” Diddy began. “Being a producer and a connoisseur of hip-hop production, that’s the thing that motivated me.”
Detailing his first encounter with the fabled Ibiza party spot, Diddy said that it was his old sparring partner Felix Da Housecat who exposed him to DC-10. “It was Felix Da Housecat and Nelle Hooper, the producer of U2, No Doubt, all of that. We were on holiday and they said that they wanted to show me this club. It starts at two in the afternoon. So we went there and my mind was blown. We stayed until pretty much, yeah, the next day. And then we went to Space and then back to the house, our regular Ibiza routine,” Diddy explained. Ibiza’s like Vegas: What happens in Ibiza stays in Ibiza. But I have experienced Ibiza to the fullest. I definitely experienced Ibiza to its fullest. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a legend in Ibiza. I’m actually a legend in Ibiza. I’m not exaggerating. I’m actually a legend. You can read between the lines.”
He’s a legend there. An actual legend. He’s not exaggerationg. He’s actually a legend there. Like fucking Zeus, man. Here’s one of the singles off the apparently Ibiza-inspired Last Train To Paris.
