2010 has been the year of superstar DJs making the leap to live shows, and next in line is the mighty bomb-specialist Eric Prydz. The man also known as Pryda and Cirez D will debut his all-in-one live spectacular EPIC at London’s O2 Academy in April 2011, and the specs sheet looks suitably, well, epic.
The set-up sees Prydz perched in a 30-metre structure that will come to life with holographic visuals, 3D animation projections, pyrotechnics and – most high-tech of all – confetti cannons. Apparently the construction of the tower in the venue takes three days.
According to the press notes, Prydz commissioned and funded the show himself, working with production company Immersive on the visual element. “When I approached Immersive I told them I wanted a new show that expressed my music in a visual context,” says the Swedish heavyweight. “I want to push the boundaries of a live electronic music show with technology that hasn’t been used before and to give my fans an experience that they will never forget.”
While it does sound like something you wouldn’t readily forget, the chance of an EPIC experience in Australia seems slim. That said, it’ll be interesting to observe from afar how Prydz fares against the audiovisual spectaculars of Deadmau5, Sasha, Plastikman and co.
