Considering they are perhaps the most famous electronic duo on the planet it’s no surprise that Daft Punk have their fair share of imitators and biters looking to trade in on the French group’s steez.
After weathering a few faux-leaks before their Tron Legacy score was released last year another hoax saga has popped up on the internet recently concerning a group called The Third Twin. Originally being masqueraded as a new group for Daft Punk robots Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo to release ‘rejected’ Tron Legacy material, The Third Twin were then said to be ‘directly connected’ to Daft Punk by Spanish event promoters Arenal Sound Festival who had booked the mysterious duo.
Such a link has now been dismissed by Daft Punk’s management in a rare press statement responding to the ‘completely untrue’ internet rumours.
“DAFT PUNK IS IN NO WAY ASSOCIATED WITH THE THIRD TWIN,” the statement obtained by Daily Swarm began. ALL CAPS! “It has been brought to the attention of Daft Punk’s management that the promoters for the Arenal Sound Festival in Spain have recently issued a press release in which they claim that a band called The Third Twin is ‘directly connected’ to Daft Punk. This is completely untrue. Recent press reports are based on rumors instead of facts. Daft Punk is in no way associated with The Third Twin and the promoters for the Arenal Sound Festival are promoting the show under false pretenses. We would like to ensure Daft Punk’s audience is not taken advantage of by this fraudulently promoted show and strongly discourage anyone to buy tickets expecting Daft Punk to play at this festival, either as themselves or under any other pseudonym.”
Furthermore, Mitchell Leib from Tron Legacy distributors Disney went on the record to dispel the rumours that the house of Mickey rejected any material from the Daft Punk score, a blind bit of gossip that’s been circulating the internerd ever since fans heard the very un-electronic Daft Punk soundtrack.
“We never threw out any of their material, ever,” Leib stated to Billboard. “I want to dispel any of the rumors about that material by that alias group being any derivative of our Tron music, because it’s not at all. There’s nothing about that music that has anything to do with Tron or any of the original conceptual music that was done.”
Here’s a Third Twin track for those curious…
