After a triumphant victory-lap tour with the 2011 Big Day Out festival it was with misty eyes that LCD Soundsystem announced were really, truly, defos calling it quits this time, with a final farewell show planned at Madison Square Garden in the group’s inspirational home town of New York City on April 2nd.
Following that announcement DFA acolytes were sent into a frenzy trying to get pre-sale tickets for the MSG show resulting in a few opportunistic buyers listing tickets at inflated prices on the sort-of-scalping website StubHub even before the general release of tickets went on sale. The ticketing website has since been met with a few verbal grenades from James Murphy, with the LCD head honcho telling the site’s management to “eat shit”.
“No matter what we do, it is not worth that kind of money to see us,” Murphy wrote as a part of his Twitter tirade against StubHub. “I pretty much guarantee ‘fans’ aren’t pricing these tickets…[StubHub] you’re barely legal and you know it”.
Apologising to fans for the self-described ‘clusterfuck’ that the ticketing process had turned into, Murphy then came forth with some good news for fans, announcing that LCD Soundsystem would stage an extra four shows ahead of the April 2nd send-off, happening each night at the Terminal 5 venue in the mid-west of Manhattan on the 28th to the 31st of March. That’s five LCD shows in a week. Lucky sods!
