Tiesto In Concert, Dusk Till Doorn, Armin Only, Full On Ferry – and now Evolution. Yes, the ‘DJ concept show’ craze has another convert in German veteran Paul van Dyk, who’ll debut his new-look set-up at Coachella in California next month. The concept ties into PvD’s forthcoming album Evolution, with his DJ shows now calling on the expertise of some “amazing” visual architects.

“I’m hiring in people with proper production skills, which goes further than using a few big screens,” the DJ told Beatportal this week. “The tour kicks off at Coachella festival on April 16 and will develop and ‘evolve’ with each show as the tour continues.”

The show brings together PvD’s passions for new technology and social/political commentary. “Visually it’ll go through different phases,” he explained to Beatportal, “such as ‘Nebula’, ‘The Big Bang’ and ‘The Modern Media World’ in conjunction with the music; so it’ll be a real experience.”

Speaking to Blackbookmag.com last month, he was emphatic there’d be more to his show than others you might see on the dance festival circuit. “These days you see a lot of DJs touring with impressive video screens and stuff like that, and all you see is different kind of bubbles for two or three hours. I didn’t want that; I wanted to actually have something that really emphasises the evening.”

We’re hedging our bets for a Paul van Dyk tour before the year is out (see our Crystal Ball below), and if it’s the full Evolution shebang, then even better!
