While today’s musical landscape has been unforgiving to traditional business models for record labels – and we’ve recently seen big imprints like Renaissance and Institubes bite the dust – it’s an especially big milestone for a label to prosper and thrive through 100 consecutive releases as Canada’s Turbo Recordings has now done.
To celebrate that milestone in style, the Tiga lead Turbo crew are busting out the party poppers and planning a special retrospective of what’s come before with the massive Turbo Century package.
Released in four parts beginning on April 22nd, Turbo Century will compile 69 tracks from Turbo’s first 100 releases, with each quarter package billed as “affordably priced” essential for Turbo followers.
Tiga himself has spoken out about the Turbo Century compendium with the typically quirky statement which you can read below. And for more Turbo goodness check out the latest instalment of My Name Is Tiga now on BBC’s 6Music.
100 years ago I had a dream: release music I love, with pro graphics, without going bankrupt. 100 12-inches later, Turbo stands high on the rubble of crumbled empires: Mo’Wax, Factory, EMI all dead in our wake…. we will never give up the fight: music we love, dressed for success, format-democratic, NEVER going bankrupt. Climbing to the stars, 300 copies at a time. Bring on the next CENTURY. see you in 2017.
Love from Montreal
Tiga
