Modeselektor rarely put a foot wrong, so each new venture from the industrious Berliners is met with high expectations. Having delivered one of the albums of 2009 alongside Apparat as Moderat, 2011 sees the duo doing their own thing again. They’ll release a new long-player, Monkeytown, on 30 September in Germany, with an Australian release date sure to follow not long after.
In typical Modeselektor fashion, Monkeytown will feature a cast of like-minded collaborators. Across the 10 songs are team-ups with former foil Thom Yorke, Busdriver, Anti-Pop Consortium, Miss Plantnum and even our very own PVT. While we await the album, there’s Modeselektor’s other project in collaboration with musicians from Nairobi in Kenya, due in July.
With summer heating up on the other side of the world, Modeselektor is naturally keeping busy around Europe, but here’s hoping they bring their madcap antics back this way in good time. After the brilliance they unleashed here in 2008, we could use some Monkeytown in our lives.
