This summer sees the high-sheen Scissor Sisters live show hit the stages of Summadayze and Summafieldayze, and no one is more ready for a rave than frontman Jake Shears. While the band has built its name on pop-tinged disco, Shears got on the phone to inthemix to profess an unabiding love for what he calls “very hard techno music”. The influence responsible for his reignited passion is none other than German heavyweight Boys Noize.
You might recall that back in April Boys Noize put together a mixtape featuring Scissor Sisters remixes from the likes of Mr. Oizo, Erol Alkan and Tensnake as well as a bunch of Boys Noize records acts. It was the start of a fruitful – and somewhat unlikely – cross-continental friendship between the DJ-producer and Shears.
“Alex is somebody we’ve been working with and it’s awesome,” enthused Spears to inthemix. “It’s an unlikely combination. I’ve really developed a taste for very hard techno music and that’s what led me to him. I’ve developed this insatiable appetite for dance music. I’ve started DJing with my friend Jeremy Lingvall as a duo called Crystal Pepsi. We just played at Ibiza last weekend, which was a blast. It’s just real fun. I’ve been totally in love with dance music – again.”
It isn’t just DJing that’s getting Shears all worked up. “I have little holidays to Barcelona and Ibiza and I love raving,” he added. “I fucking love clubbing so much.”
