It hasn’t yet been a week since the tragic death of DJ Mehdi and the tributes continue to flood in. Overnight, Ed Banger Records star Feadz uploaded a mix as a homage to his friend, featuring French hip hop, electro, soul and other bits and pieces that give a snapshot of Mehdi’s expansive tastes and influences. It’s already clocked up close to 17,000 plays in just 15 hours, so expect that count to keep climbing.

Another tribute posted recently is this touching video made by Melbourne-based multi-tasker Ryder Jack Susman. As he writes in the blurb: “A video I made compiled of footage I filmed of Mehdi, when I had the honour and privilege of spending time with him in Paris & Barcelona in 2011. Also features excerpts from So-Me’s video for DJ Mehdi’s I Am Somebody.”

As we confirmed in the initial news piece, Mehdi died when a skylight in the Plexiglas floor of his Paris apartment shattered, causing the DJ and three others to fall seven metres. The party was to celebrate the birthday of his Carte Blanche buddy Riton. “Just want everyone to know that we were all laughing our asses off 1/2 second before the accident,” Riton wrote on Twitter, before adding about the other two guests, “simon alegia and louise are all well.”
