JUST ANNOUNCED:
Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock will kick on from their Sydney Garden Party with encore sets in the Cave at Chinese Laundry. Both DJs will have two hour sets. Sounds like a marathon!
Melbourne and Sydney are bracing for a heavyweight weekend of techno, with Berlin figureheads Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann in our midst. Not-so-fresh from a long haul flight, the pair will get straight down to it tonight at Melbourne’s Brown Alley for smalltown, where they’ve been allotted at least eight hours. Then it’s up to Sydney for an extended session in the sunshine at Chinese Laundry’s Garden Party.
If you’re eagerly counting down the hours until the party begins, you’ll probably appreciate this well-timed video upload from N.E.W.S.tv. It finds Dettmann discussing his mix album Conducted and enthusing about his favourite Berlin institutions Hard Wax and Berghain.
“Everything that happens at Berghain, still stays at Berghain,” he says in the video. “People are really happy to be a part of the night. If you want to go there and freak totally out, you won’t see any pictures.”
He also describes the various sets he’ll play at the techno temple on any given weekend. “At the beginning I like to play drones and some weird electronic stuff, really starting slowly. I like to play prime-time as well, which is even tougher. But my favourite is to play the end, because it’s like a marathon. Sometimes you play eight, sometimes 12, hours.” Check out the video below.
