If you thought church was the one place you really shouldn’t wear fluoro and fist-pump, you obviously don’t live in Sweden. Those ever-progressive Scandinavians have found a place for ‘techno’ on Sunday mornings (we’re thinking they’re using ‘techno’ as a stand-in for ‘dance music’; not exactly the kind you find at Berghain on a Sunday morning), pairing the unlikely duo of raves and religious fervour for a new breed of church service.

The Sun has reported that Sweden’s All Saints Church has launched a techno service with the aim of attracting more young people to the church.

Rather than the usual drab church activities of praying and listening to sermons, the techno service offers pounding beats and flashing lights. Sounds super pious. Reverend Olle Idestrom explained his decision, stating, “We need to develop the services so that we have a service also for people, mainly from the younger generation, who like this kind of music.”

Apparently, the service was a success – Idestrom claims it was so popular; wannabe-ravers had to be turned away. One 15 year old attendee said, “It was super fun; it was really kicking. I didn’t think it would be this good before I came. The church isn’t really my kind of thing, but after this, it seems like it is great.”

Time to ditch those rosary beads for some glow-sticks, y’all.
