With New Year’s Eve just days away, the sun (sometimes) shining and house parties happening all over the place, the silly season is well and truly upon us. This is also the time of year when our favourite DJs start to feel generous, and inthemix has been scouring for some prime Soundcloud offerings we think you should wrap your ears around.
Joris Voorn
First up is a truly epic set from Dutch impresario Joris Voorn, recorded live in Amsterdam on Boxing Day. The DJ was playing all night long in the Trouw club as part of a showcase for his Rejected label, and now he’s uploaded the full nine hours to his Soundcloud. It’s just the ticket if you want to O.D. on groove-led, loopy house and techno, all weaved together with Voorn’s technical ear. All three parts are below – and he’s made them available for download too.
Carte Blanche
Back in September, the dance music world was left reeling from the news of DJ Mehdi’s tragic death. A flood of eulogies followed in the months after, including tribute mixes from the likes of A-Trak and Feadz. Just before Christmas, it was Mehdi’s closest studio ally Riton who offered up a mix in memory of his friend. It’s a set from Riton and Mehdi in their Carte Blanche guise, recorded in Nice, France.
James Zabiela
Another set that’s caught our attention this week comes from James Zabiela, who has uploaded a recording of his set from The Warehouse Project in Manchester earlier this month. “I was playing last after Pete Tong and Sasha,” explains the UK whiz, “so this is pretty peak time and in places it is not for the faint hearted!”
If you’ve been following Zabiela’s atmospheric Paradigm Shifts mixes on Soundcloud, this’ll be a change of pace – but not an unwelcome one.
6th Borough Project
If you like it deep, you’ll find plenty to enjoy in the Australian tour mix from 6th Borough Project. With two club dates down and two still to come, Craig Smith and Graeme Clark (aka The Revenge) have a wealth of experience as DJs, and you can hear it in this mix, which takes in warm house and disco, a bit of jack and some well-timed vocals.
