Whenever inthemix posts a story to our Facebook page with mention of Skrillex, we can be assured of at least one comment to the effect of: “F*#k inthemix!! Why don’t you just marry him???” However, if you think we write about the divisive US star a lot, it’s nothing compared to Australia’s Facebook users.

In a recent round-up of the ‘Top Ten Status Trends’ for 2011 published by Facebook, Skrillex ranks at #10 for Canada – and #5 for Australia. He’s nowhere to be found in the top tens for the United States and the UK, by the way.

In Australia’s list, Skrillex comes in just behind the death of Osama bin Laden and ahead of the Victorian floods, missing Queensland school-boy Daniel Morcombe, “winning” nut-case Charlie Sheen, the death of Amy Winehouse, and Australian cyclist Cadel Evans.

Skrillex is of course bringing his Cell here in March as part of the Future Music Festival, so it doesn’t look likely his rank is going to dwindle in 2012. Love him or hate him, it’s pretty remarkable to see a dance music star so widely talked-about. Or maybe it was just people sharing inthemix articles – right guys, right!?
