Back in November, Pete Tong declared that Vegas clubbing was no longer the “lowest common denominator”, instead suggesting that the (non-erotic) dance scene in Sin City is gradually taking off.

Adding weight to that argument is the announcement that America’s #1 DJ, Kaskade, is set to continue his Las Vegas residency at Marquee Nightclub in 2012. In addition to monthly night-time shows, Kaskade is also set to play several daylight-hours dates at the Marquee’s Dayclub.

Considering Kaskade’s NYE Vegas show featured a 40-foot LED DJ booth, 32,000-watt subwoofers, theatrically-costumed dancers and the man himself playing for no less than 12 hours, the DJ has certainly set a precedent for the 2012 shows.

“Having a monthly residency in Vegas gives me the chance to stretch out musically, play longer sets, and share some really unique magical moments with my fans,” Kaskade stated. “Vegas has exploded in the last two years, the parties just keep getting bigger and better, the city and Marquee are can’t miss destinations for dance music fans”.

But does Vegas have the chops to become the new Ibiza? Well, if the city can convert a non-drinking, anti-gambling and happily-married Mormon, it may yet convince the rest of the electronic and dance music world.
