2011 was a year of crowning moments for Swedish wunderkind Avicii, his unstoppable studio streak landing him centre stage at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals (including of course, our very own Stereosonic). With an ever-growing legion of followers, the DJ-producer is looking to go stratospheric in 2012. Avicii’s standing in dance-music-crazed North America will surely only be bolstered by his recent pledge to donate $1 million from his 26-date US tour to charity – and he’s even headlining one night of Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

If 2012 is set to be Avicii’s year, he certainly got it started on a high. On New Year’s Eve, the Swede took over Pier 94 in New York for a huge concert billed as ‘the biggest NYE party on Manhattan in modern history’ (fair enough). 11,000 ecstatic fans crammed into the warehouse-style space to ring in 2012, with Cazzette, Arty and Swanky Tunes on warm-up duties. Stepping up after midnight, Avicii’s set ticked off a handful of his 2012-slated tracks and remixes including Silhouettes alongside big-hitters from buddies like Alesso, Afrojack, David Guetta, Axwell and Thomas Gold.

Avicii’s camp has now pulled the highlights from the New Year’s party into a five-minute video, and it’s sure to get fans’ blood pumping.
