Narrow-eyed acid nastiness scowls over rib-shaking levels of Jamaican bass. Ice space riffs echo over steel toe-cap beats. This slimmed-down style is, Nick says, Œa rejection of that big fucking cheesy trance vibe. [Sleevenotes, Boxed, Amsterdam].
Nick Warren’s latest GU compilation is certainly a million miles away from Œbig fucking trance vibes instead exploring the deep and funky signposts towards the progressive house sounds of Tenaglia and the rest. However, Warren’s retained his innate hardness that keeps his tribal grooves thumping and vocal interludes to a minimum.
The compilation’s standout track is Future Shock’s Sparc, which was Pete Tong¹s Essential new tune on his Radio 1 show (somewhere between house and progressive.)
