James Palumbo, Ministry Of Sound’s chief executive, has been named as one of the principal backers behind a £150million pound bid to take over the Dome, according to reports in this week’s (UK) Times. These are believed to be James Palumbo boss of the nightclub which provided the final party for the Dome on New Year’s Eve, and Harvey Goldsmith, the music promoter, the paper suggested, adding that the duo are believed to be supporting the bid of outgoing Dome boss Pierre-Yves Gerbeau. My long term vision for the Dome is as a visitor attraction, Gerbeau revealed this week. We would isolate the central area as a global entertainment venue and have the flexibility of an arena which can manage 2,000 to 20,000 seats.
