All About Me

His first set was actually a joke as half of a live electronic duo called the Galactic Gigolos back in the mid 90’s heyday of SA Rave Culture. Deejaying quickly became less of a joke and more of a passion as AfroWhitie began to do it more and more. Starting off with ambient, AfroWhitie navigated the genre map on a different course to most, playing a plethora of genres through his career including Psytrance, Big Beat, Speed Garage, Nu Skool Breaks, Hip Hop, Drum ‘n Bass, Deep house, UK Garage/ 2Step, Downtempo and a handful of the House Subgenre’s . The fact that he never settled on a single “en vogue “ sound or movement only bolstered his versatility and sees him able to pour a decent mix of genres and styles out of the speakers in a single set all while maintaining the technique and track selection required to play each with conviction and style.
A major influence on AfroWhitie's music tastes and abilities came from the now legendary 206 Live. It was there that he felt and heard his first gut wrenching basslines and mind bending beats and where worthy sensei's like Pierre Armageddon, Missile Myles and The Blunted Stuntman became his inspiration musically and technically.
It was while living in New York that he honed his sound further as a radio presenter and electronic music director at WARY-FM and took on the name AfroWhitie - "The White Boy From Africa".
AfroWhitie has spread his gospel through top notch events like the Carfax / Kiss Street Parties and OppiKoppi festivals which drew in excess 4000 people to more underground events like SENSE, PRESSURE, OFFLINE, Rustlers, Vinyl Frontier Party, Funky Thump, Fiction’s Kung Pow Breaks and Mixtape Massacre parties, ESP,Tokyo Star, Both Mystic Boer's and YoYo among many others .
He has also played alongside various internationals including Josh Wink, Dieselboy, Cargo 77, Tom Novy, Freq Nasty, General Midi, Baobinga, Krafty Kuts, The Freestylers and Qbert.

Years of exposure and ability to play varying styles have aided ventures out of clubland into fashion shows, art exhibitions, music videos, salon events, media awards shows and even the odd bar to really irritate genre slaves....

His many mixes on national SA radio through 5FM’s Vinyl Frontier to audiences in excess of a million listeners and TV appearances that include UBONA on Channel O, MTV and GoTv have been a perfect vehicle for his quest to pull people from their comfort zones and massage them with bass wrapped around chunky, bumpy beats!

Since moving to Sydney AfroWhitie has started to mellow with the beach life. This has lead to return to playing downtempo at his balmy beachside residency "Serve Chilled".

AfroWhitie understands that Deejaying is more of a privilege than a job and hopes to make you feel what he feels soon.
