Growing up in a small town in NSW, Tim Galvin was most well known in the 80’s from the unauthorised Biography written about him by Roald Dahl entitled ‘The BFG’ and in the 90’s as the muse for Tom Hanks character in ‘Big’.
After the beginning of the new millennium having reached heights in the other two popular forms of media, music was his newest and greatest challenge….this is his story…in short.
Canberra is a small place for a 6 foot 5 DJ, Tim Galvin (Aka Big Slim) has dwarfed the turntables for the last 8 years, playing at some of the ACT’s premier venues where he can be found towering over punters like a every week.
In 2008, Tim was voted # 4 in the ACT in the ITM Top 50 DJ Poll, Dropping a blend of chunky soulful, tribal and electronic battle weapons, House, Breaks, Fidget, Electro, Soul, Funk, it doesn’t matter what it is as long as you can jam in into a CD sized hole in a dark room.
Currently holding residencies at Canberra’s biggest nightclub Academy @ Love Saturdays and Alliance parties, Tongue & Groove Saturdays and Rockout @ Monkey Bar along with regular guest spots at Minque, Lot 33 and interstate at the Chinese Laundry in Sydney. Tim has supported top local and international artists such as Hybrid, James Zabiela, Chris Lake, Paul Van Dyk, Lee Burridge, Paolo Mojo, DJ Hyper, Dirty South, Phil K, John Course, TV Rock, The Potbellez, Mark Dynamix, Andy Van, Hook & Sling and Kid Kenobi to name but a few.
Tim is also the Dance columnist for Canberra street press BMA magazine, having interviews printed with some of the top players around the world including Basement jaxx, Nick Warren, Armand Van Helden, Faithless, Fedde Le Grand, Switch and The Crystal Method.
Also a songwriter and vocalist , under the alter ego ‘Big Slim’ Tim has collaborated with Jeff Drake & Jaytech on two smashing records, “Rollover Rockstar” and “One Dress, Two Legs”. The first was chosen (in two different guises) for 6 separate compilations including the Chinese Laundry Vol 1 CD and Vicious Cuts 3, and was released on Vicious Vinyl in 2008 reaching #19 on the ARIA charts and the latter appeared on the 2007 Good Vibrations CD. Another release, ‘Jagermonster’ was dropped by James Zabiela at one of his first performances in Canberra and also ‘Never Too Late’ was a hyper record completed with local Canberra lads Karton which has been signed to Vacation Records, the fresh Tommy Trash and fRew mix was getting plays in Ibiza from Sarah Main and Ferry Corsten.
