After spending years at uni writing essays about nothing, I decided I would redirect my literary skills into a pastime more enjoyable. Previously writing event reviews for anthems.com.au and being the local dream interpreter, a hobby I continue elsewhere on the web, I decided I needed to write about more than just music from the 1990’s and this led me towards inthemix.com.au, Australia’s most popular music website,
When I first signed up I was inspired to write under the guise of ‘the elektro kitten’ since I had a love for electro Gods such as Anthony Rother. But since the fluoro electro house movement took over, I decided that ‘electro’ was a murdered term. But we all know cats have nine lives so I reinvented myself on other sites and publications.
Kiss Kitten: just like a kitten, my word styles tend to be playful, delicate, and generally pleasurable. Of course there are those who hate cats, but who gets anywhere in journalism unless you’re willing to ruffle up a few feathers with your honesty. Not that this young cat is about to kill any birds with her words; I just like to discuss controversial facts and truths that are naughty but fitting. A kiss of a kitten is really a little bite, but it never hurts, it just makes you want to play, or in this case, read more!
Focusing mainly on event reviews in the little ol’ town of Adelaide, I’d cover anything from a generic club night to a major festival. This didn’t leave me out of touch with the international scene, with notable opportunities to personally interview international stars such as Dizzee Rascal, Andy Barlow (Lamb) and Felix Buxton (Basement Jaxx), blushes!
Being the adventurous kitten I am always looking for a challenge, I took the leap from being just a voluntary contributor, to being the next State Promotions Coordinator for inthemix. During this time I continued my writing, and was also actively seeking promoters event spiel, local industry gossip, and news worthy content. This was all whilst being in control of weekly mail-outs, sourcing writers and photographers, much like myself, to cover the events, and being an editor of others submitted reviews and interviews, and a company promoter. Whew, no wonder us cats like our sleep!
About to embark on an exciting studio career in Bristol, UK, I wish to further my writing skills and write about my passion of electronic music. As much as I’m warm and fluffy, on a serious not I hope you have just as much satisfaction from reading my articles as I have writing them.
