Session 22 - Freestylers

inthemix Podcast

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Prepare yourself for the final podcast we’ll be releasing in 2006. It’s been a massive year for the inthemix podcast series, so we’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone for their continued support. To see 2006 out with a bang though, we’ve got another huge podcast for your listening pleasure. Get ready for fresh new tracks and remixes from Spank Rock, Switch, Acid Jacks, 10 Sui, New Young Pony Club and more, plus we also speak with the Freestylers!

Feature Artist
Freestylers – Electrified [Against The Grain/Shock]

Undoubtedly one of the biggest names in the breakbeat world, the Freestylers have released countless dancefloor singles and several albums over their expansive career. In 2004 they crossed over to the mainstream with their infectious single ‘Push Up’, which even went to #1 on the Australian charts. No mean feat for a breaks duo used to playing dark and dingey clubs in the UK! They’ve recently released their brand new album, ‘Adventures In Freestyle’, and are preparing to return to Australian shores in December for a national tour. They’re bringing back the live band this time too. We caught up with Aston to find out how the band enjoyed touring on the Big Day Out in 2005, their opinion on the electro house sound, and what it was like to have ‘Push Up’ covered on Australian Idol.

Emerging Artist
The Huslers – Get Loose

The final emerging artist we’ll feature for 2006 hail from Sydney and are residents at famed Thursday nighter Funktrust. The Hustlers, aka Mike One and Naverone, are known across town for their mash-up DJ sets, covering breaks, electro, funk and house. They’ve also branched out to start writing their own music. If you’re making your own music be sure to drop us an email as we’re always looking for fresh names to feature in the podcast sessions. Just email podcasts@team.inthemix.com.au.

Also On This Podcast…

Spank Rock – Bump (Switch Remix) [Big Dada/Inertia]
With singles like Rick Rubin and Backyard Betty, as well as their album YoYoYoYoYo, Spank Rock have proved to be one of the most exciting hip-hop acts of 2006. Also a big name on the scene this year was Switch, who’s remixed names like the Chemical Brothers, Future Shock and the Audio Bullys. Over the coming months both Spank Rock and Switch will be touring – Spank Rock at the BDO and Switch over the NYE/NYD period – so we thought it was highly appropriate to feature this stomper of a track.
