Session 27 feat. Chris Lake

inthemix Podcast

You’ll be glad you downloaded inthemix podcast session 27, as we’ve got an extra special broadcast for you this fortnight. We talk with dance music’s fast rising new superstar Chris Lake, who is about to touch down for the Future Music Festival this month. We’ve also got brand new tracks and remixes from UK crate digger Dr Rubberfunk and X-Press 2 main-man Ashley Beedle, Melbourne’s Digital Primate, French electro producer Joakim, Sebrof Divad, and emerging local Timothy Allen.

Feature Artist
Chris Lake
Lake & Leger – Aqualight [Rising Music]

Chris Lake shot to stardom in 2006 with his breakthrough single ‘Changes’. Dubbed the ‘biggest talent to emerge from Scotland since Mylo’, he’s had a whirlwind year adjusting to his position in the spotlight, going from an unknown to one of the hottest producers on the house, electro and progressive scene. He toured Australia for the very first time late last year, and the response to his DJ sets was so good he’s been invited to return just a few months later. Picked up to mix one of the discs on the Future Music Festival CD, which is in stores now, he’ll be touring the country on the festival bill this March. Far from letting all the hype go to his head, Chris remains down to earth and modest when talking about his newfound fame. We recently had the chance to speak with him ahead of his tour.

Emerging Artist
Timothy Allan – Years Ago

Melbourne based producer Timothy Allan is fast gaining a name for himself, with releases on labels Oh Records and Segment Digital, which can be purchased through Beatport. Originally from Canada, Timothy is our featured emerging artist for podcast session 26. If you’re making your own music remember, you can submit your tracks for inclusion in the podcast sessions, so be sure to drop us an email to podcasts@team.inthemix.com.au.

Featured Download
Sebrof Divad – Drum Chapel [Whoop]

This week’s featured download comes from a producer going by the name of Sebrof Divad. We can’t be entirely sure, but from what we can find online it’s actually a pseudonym for David Forbes, who is better known for his pounding trance as part of Public Domain. This is pretty far removed from the trance world however, with a real electro and progressive sound. You can buy it now on inthemix.trackitdown.net.

Also On This Podcast…

Joakim – Drumatrax [!K7/Inertia]
French producer Joakim has just released his debut artist album on German label K7. Although it’s the first album release under the Joakim name, he’s by no means a stranger to the scene, having gained notoriety for the Tigersushi label, which he established in 1999. A mix of abstract and avante garde electro, the album is called ‘Monsters & Silly Songs’.

Dr Rubberfunk – Taking Over (Ashley Beedle Remix) [GPS Recordings/Creative Vibes]
Dr Rubberfunk’s new single ‘Taking Over’ follows on from his debut album, ‘My Life At 33’, released in 2006. We’ve got the rather tasty Ashley Beedle remix of the track for you right here. Beedle is of course a member of house music superstars X-Press 2, and he’s touring the country in March on the Future Music Festival.

Digital Primate – I Ain’t Wid It [Public Opinion/Shock]
A veteran of the Melbourne underground techno scene, in 2007 Digital Primate released his brand new album, titled ‘Siege Mentality’. The album has a politically charged theme running throughout, and features a stack of guest vocalists and MCs, all mixing elements of dub and reggae with electro and techno. Digital Primate is also fresh from touring with the Big Day Out nationally earlier this year, so you know he’s gotta be good!
