This is a special broadcast as it marks something of a milestone for us. Yep, we’re now up to episode number 30. Thanks so much for all the support over the past 16 months. The inthemix podcasts have been downloaded over 100,000 times, which is pretty amazing stuff! For session 30 we’ve got an exciting first. This fortnight our feature artist is world renowned psy-trance act Infected Mushroom, that’s right we’re going psy! But it’s not psy as you know it. Ever wanted to know what a psy-trance act would sound like doing hip-hop? We’ve also got new music from Aussie favourite Bass Kleph, the super fresh Riot In Belgium remix of the Dardanelles, a remix courtesy of German minimal maestro Martin Buttrich, a track lifted from DJ Vadim’s new album, and we put the spotlight on emerging local producer Pretension.

Feature Artist
Infected Mushroom – Artillery [EQ/Stomp]
Having been on the psy-trance scene now for almost a decade, Infected Mushroom are without a doubt one of the most important live acts to have emerged from the fertile Israeli scene. Moving a few years back from Israel to set up a new home in Los Angeles, they’ve been hard at work refining and reinventing their sound to match their new surrounds. They’ve just released their sixth album, titled Vicious Delicious, and it is unquestionably their most experimental to date. Along with their usual psy-trance style they’ve included elements of heavy metal and even hip-hop. So interesting is their new stuff, we decided to feature one of their hip-hop styled productions on this fortnight’s podcast. We also caught up with one half of the duo, Erez, recently as he kicked back in his Melbourne hotel room while on an Australia tour.

Emerging Artist
Pretension – Cured
This fortnight’s featured artist hails from Brisbane and produces music under various guises. For his house styled tracks, he’s going by the name Pretension. It’s very much along the same lines as mainroom house by the likes of Eric Prydz, try and guess where the guitar sample was been lifted from. Remember, if you’re making your own stuff, get in touch with us so we can feature it. Just email podcasts@team.inthemix.com.au.

TG – Rhythm Acupuncture (Martin Buttrich Remix) [Four:Twenty]
To date Martin Buttrich has collaborated on over 100 releases with Timo Maas as the German producer’s behind the scenes go-to man. But of late Martin has forged out a name for himself as a solo producer also, releasing one of the most noted underground tracks of 2006 for ‘Full Clip’, which dropped on Carl Craig’s Planet E record label in September last year. For this podcast’s featured download we’ve got his remix of TG ‘Rhythm Acupuncture’, released on British label Four:Twenty, home to the likes of Loco Dice, D Ramirez and more.

Dardanelles – Ofcourse You Said (Riot In Belgium Remix) [Mosquito’s Tweeter]
We’ve got the brand new Riot In Belgium remix of Melbourne indie kids the Dardanelles. Riot In Belgium have been doing major things of late, including recent tours around the country with Soulwax and the Future Music Festival. Following on from their killer single ‘La Musique’, their remix of the Dardanelles ‘Ofcourse You Said’ shows that the divide between rock and dance really is growing smaller all the time!

DJ Vadim – Like The Wind [BBE/Inertia]
Called the John Coltrane of hip-hop, DJ Vadim is an outright legend on the indie hip-hop scene. His recent One Self project toured the globe, and was invited to remix the likes of Gangstarr and Fat Freddy’s Drop, and re-edited Prince, Al Green and more. Having taken some time to work on his own solo material, Vadim recently unleashed his 5th album ‘The Sound Catcher’. It’s an eclectic listen, covering a wide number of genres and styles in its influence. This is the track ‘Like The Wind’, very cool stuff indeed.

Bass Kleph – Coup D’Etat [Vacation Records]
A longtime favourite of inthemix and the podcast sessions, Bass Kleph’s brand new record label Vacation has been going great guns since launching back in January. Now up to their third release, this time it comes once again from the mainman himself, with Bass Kleph unveiling ‘Coup D’Etat’. If you know Bass Kleph’s work you already know it’s going to be quality, but this really sees him taking a new path in his productions, mixing breaks with a housier style reminiscent of guys like Meat Katie and Lee Coombs.
