This fortnight we’re featuring Danish dance duo Junior Senior, whose second album ‘Hey Hey My My Yo Yo’ is finally getting a release down under almost 2 years after its initial release! We’ve also got fresh new music from Japanese turntable legend DJ Kentaro teaming up with Baltimore bad boys Spank Rock, UK breakbeat producer Merka, Dutch duo the 16 Bit Lolitas, rapidly emerging drum & bass identity Ben Westbeech, and Brisbane’s Foreign Technology.
Congratulations to Tim from Berry in Southern NSW won the shiny new Sony Ericsson W880i Walkman Phone from last fortnight’s podcast. The codeword was indeed Infected Mushroom! Make sure you stay downloading upcoming podcasts too, as we’ll have more Sony Ericsson goodies to giveaway in coming months.
Feature Artist
Junior Senior – Can I Get Get Get (Tore Johansson Remix) [Crunchy Frog/Shock]
Danish duo Junior Senior had a worldwide hit with their single ‘Move Your Feet’ in 2003, and now they’re back with a new album ‘Hey Hey My My Yo Yo’. The album was originally released in Japan way back in August 2005, and it went straight to #2 on their charts. It’s interesting that it’s taken a while to make its way down to Australia for a release, but the wait has been worth it. We got the chance to speak with Jesper Mortensen, one half of the duo, recently.

Emerging Artist
Foreign Technology – Blast
Based in Brisbane, Foreign Technology – or F:Tech as he’s sometimes known – got his start writing drum & bass tracks throughout the mid to late 90s, before moving on to breaks and electro. He’s remixed for fellow Brisbanites Superfluid, and in 1999 he won a competition on Triple J that saw his track ‘Elektrik’ played on the station as they did the NYE countdown to 2000. We’re always looking for new music to feature in the podcasts, so if you’re making your own stuff get in touch with us like F:Tech did. Email podcasts@team.inthemix.com.au.

DJ Kentaro feat. Spank Rock – Free [Ninja Tune/Inertia]
DJ Kentaro is something of a hero in his native Japan, as he’s the only DJ to have ever won the world DMC turntable championships with a perfect score. He’s been producing for a few years now, and recently finished work on his long awaited debut album ‘Enter’. It covers a range of styles, from hip-hop through to drum & bass, mixed with traditional Japanese instrumentation. It also has a heap of guest vocalists, including west coast rap legends the Pharcyde, and newcomers from Baltimore Spank Rock, who feature here on the track ‘Free’.

Merka – Yakumo’s Ready [Fat/Inertia]
The latest album to be released on long serving UK breaks label Fat!, is Merka’s brand new LP ‘Beserka’. The press notes for this release are some of the funniest we’ve ever read, and the description of the track ‘Yakumo’s Ready’, which we’re listening to now, is particularly entertaining. To quote them direct… ”’Yakumo’s Ready’ evoked the sensation of having your damp testicles dipped into a bag of castor sugar and then comprehensively and painstakingly cleaned by a conscientious Siamese cat with a sandpapery tongue.” We’ll let you make up your mind on whether it does that for you too!

Ben Westbeech – So Good Today [Brownswood/Creative Vibes]
Ben Westbeech has been creating a stir on the UK drum & bass scene lately, ever since he came to the attention of Gilles Peterson, the BBC Radio 1 legend. Peterson had Westbeech’s track ‘So Good Today’ played to him in a car in 2005, and he promptly signed it to his new record label Brownswood. In fact he was so impressed he then got Westbeech on board for a full length album. The LP, called ‘Welcome To The Best Years Of Your Life’ is about to be released in Australia.
