Session 48

inthemix Podcast

inthemix podcast session 48; our last broadcast of 2007! It’s been a massive year for dance music, and we hope you’ve been kept up to date with the inthemix podcasts, bringing you the freshest new music every fortnight throughout 2007. To say goodbye to the year that was we’ve lined up one of our hottest tracklistings yet, with hot new music from a bunch of artists set to tour over the NYE and NYD period, including Spank Rock, Malente and the Plump DJs. We’ve also got some tasty new local music for your to sink your teeth into, with Bass Kleph and Theatre of Disco sending through their latest tracks.

Sit back and relax, it might be the silly season but we’ll make it a whole lot easier to get through. Think of the next 30 minutes as much needed musical therapy. Remember to check back in early January as our first podcast of 2008 features the one and only Dirty South, who was recently nominated for a Grammy for Best Remix and after over 6 months away from Australia on tour is finally heading back home. As always, we like to hear what you think, so if you’ve got any comments or feedback drop us an email to podcasts@team.inthemix.com.au, but for now we’ll catch you again next year.

Feature Artist

Plump DJs – System Addict [Finger Lickin]
They’re the fattest duo in breakbeat, pardon the pun, and they’re heading back to Australia to do what they do best this summer. Yes, the Plump DJs will be spending their NYE and NYD break in Oz once again, and their countless fans around the country couldn’t be happier. Having spent the best part of 2007 working on an eagerly anticipated new album, we recently caught up with Lee to talk about how the Plumps have managed to stay one step ahead of the pack as breakbeat’s popularity shapes up against the dominating force of electro house.

Summer tour dates:

Dec 26 – Breakfest, Perth
Dec 31 – Family, Brisbane
Jan 1 – Hot BBQ, Melbourne
Jan 5 – Festival First Night, Sydney
Jan 11 – Prince Bandroom, Melbourne
Jan 12 – ANU Refectory, Canberra

Also On This Podcast…

Spank Rock & Benny Blanco – Shake That [Downtown Records/Inertia]
Although they missed out on doing the full live show at the BDO earlier this year, luckily we’re getting a second chance to see Baltimore bad-boys Spank Rock within a 12 month period as they tour Australia once again over the NYE and NYD period. Fans have been waiting eagerly for some new Spank Rock tracks to see the light of day. Their prayers were answered recently when the group released the Bangers & Cash EP. Inspired by legendary rap posse 2 Live Crew, the EP sees Spank Rock collaborating with Benny Blanco. As to be expected it’s not the sort of music you want your mum to catch you listening to.

Bass Kleph – Bump Uglies [Vacation Records]
Vacation Records label boss Bass Kleph has taken the wraps off his latest release, which he’s appropriately titled ‘Bump Uglies’ as it’s one nasty, dirty track. 2007 has been a massive year for Bass Kleph, with his label going from strength to strength in its first 12 months. He’s had several huge tracks and remixes given major exposure internationally, and 2008 things are looking even brighter for the local producer. As the press notes for ‘Bump Uglies’ say, it’s “music to dent the headboard to”, check it out!

Regal – Rock The Funky Beat (Malente Remix) [Unique/Creative Vibes]
Taking his name from his hometown in Germany, Malente is heading back to Australia this December and January for one of his biggest Oz tours yet. Playing a bunch of big summer festivals, as well as club shows around the country, he’s debuting his new Malente live show at selected dates, so if you’re a fan be sure to check it out. Here’s his recent remix of Australian producer Regal’s single ‘Rock The Funky Beat’.

Theatre Of Disco – On A Train [Risky Disco/Future Classic]
Although they’re based in Sydney, Theatre of Disco initially met in London, and they’ve toured everywhere from Tokyo to Berlin. The duo, made up of James Brennan and Oli Chang, are renowned for their unique approach to live electro; check out some of the clips on YouTube to get an idea if you haven’t experienced it yet first hand. They’ve recently released their debut EP on Risky Disco, the sub-label for Future Classic.
