Feature Artist

UNKLE – Hold My Hand (Dubfire Remix) [POD/Inertia]
Having been held in high regard on the electronic music scene for many years with his label Mo’Wax and his legendary remixes and productions, 2007 was a major turning point in the career of James Lavelle, better known as the man behind UNKLE. With the release of the album ‘War Stories’, UNKLE are finally set to bring their live show to Australia for the first time as part of the Big Day Out. However, things are set to be a little different to originally planned, as news was recently announced that Lavelle had split with longtime UNKLE production partner Richard File. We caught up with Lavelle recently to discuss his thoughts on the music scene and found out his plans for his brand new label Surrender All. We also got some hints on what to expect from the forthcoming live show tour.

Sharam Jey – Message 2 Love (Alex Metric Remix) [King Kong Records]
The hot new Alex Metric remix of ‘Message 2 Love’ is the latest single to be lifted from Sharam Jey’s album ‘4 Da Lovers’. The vinyl release features 6 new remixes, so it’s one that’ll cater to all types of DJs. Rising star Alex Metric’s take on the track is certainly the standout, giving it an extra electro-tech punch.

Nick Galea feat. Emily – Little Things (Elroy & Piper feat. James Taylor Remix) [BamBamMuzik]
A name that is rapidly rising on the house scene is Queensland’s Nick Galea. A resident at Brisbane’s newest superclub The Met, Nick has been producing and DJing since he was 15. Now a respected name in the Australian scene, Nick has been releasing tunes for the last few years, in particular this track, which recently achieved top 10 status on the ARIA Club Chart.

30Hz – Electric Sheep [Lot49]
American-born but English-based producer 30Hz had just released his debut album ‘Electric Sheep’, with the many already praising it as one of the year’s best for its genre crossing sound. Considered one of breakbeat’s shining new stars, 30Hz was recently signed to Meat Katie’s lot49 label, which is where he released his debut LP. We’ve gotta say that the title track, ‘Electric Sheep’, really gives a pretty good idea of where the breakbeat sound is heading right now.

Ben Wijay – Feke [Canute Music]
A spankin’ new track from one of the UK’s rising stars, Ben Wijay. Picked as Muzik magazine’s 2002 DJ competition winner, and having spent time as the tour DJ for the Cuban Brothers, Ben’s reputation has him a placed as one to watch. Ben is now rapidly gaining solid cred for his impressive DJ sets, and he’s basing himself in Melbourne nowadays so you may see him popping up around the place from time to time. His latest release, ‘Feke’, has just been given house track of the month by Mixmag!
