Session 55 feat. Carl Cox

inthemix Podcast

We’ve got an exciting broadcast for you this fortnight as we introduce our brand new co-host. From now on Tim Hardaker will be joined by fellow inthemix staffer Jack Tregoning! For his first episode we’ve got a big lineup of top tracks, including new and exclusive stuff from Canadian duo Junior Boys, local electro producer Bass Kleph, and US hip-hop outfit Atmosphere. Of course that’s not all, as we also speak with Carl Cox about his summer spent in Australia, as well as featuring the Deadmau5 remix of his new collaboration with Yousef, ‘I Want You (Forever)’.

Feature Artist

Carl Cox vs Yousef – I Want You [Forever] (Deadmau5 Remix) [Hussle/Universal]
Each and every summer techno legend Carl Cox bases himself in Australia, taking the summer months to rest and recuperate after a busy year of international touring. He’s just flown the coup back to the northern hemisphere, with the WMC in Miami to attend, and then the season in Ibiza and too many festivals to list all on his agenda. Before he left he spoke with inthemix one last time, telling us what he got up to in Australia this summer, and giving us the lowdown on his new ‘Ultimate Carl Cox’ mix CD, which is available in Australia exclusively!

Junior Boys – No Kinda Man [Get Physical/Inertia]
The Body Language series of mix CDs, put out by uber cool German label Get Physical, has quickly grown to become one of the most anticipated releases for fans of forward thinking electronic music. Now up to their sixth edition, previous CDs have been handled by MANDY, DJ T, Jesse Rose, Dixon and Chateau Flight. For the latest, the mantle has been handed to Canadian duo Junior Boys. They’ve put together a Balearic inspired mix, and from it we have this exclusive and unreleased Junior Boys track ‘No Kinda Man’.

Bass Kleph & Anthony Paul – Helium (Radio Edit) [Vacation Records]
The latest release on Bass Kleph’s Vacation Records imprint comes from the man himself, teaming up with Anthony Paul for an electro stormer that’s tipped to do very big things this year. Titled ‘Helium’, it’s got a vocal that’s catchier than ebola and Bass Kleph’s signature approach to production; tough and tight. There’s no question it’ll see him getting even more exposure far beyond Australian shores in 2008!

Atmosphere – Shoulda Known [Rhymesayers/Shock]
US outfit Atmosphere have the uncanny ability of being able to get their music heard by people who don’t usually give hip hop the time of day. Fronted by Slug, they’ve become a cult act on the underground scene and they release their new album ‘When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold’ through Rhymesayers this April. If online reports are to be believed the album will come packaged with a 40-page hard-cover book of children’s stories written by Slug himself, so be sure to check it out if you’re a fan!

Boy + Girl – Shirley Temple
‘Shirley Temple’ is a new and unsigned track given to us by a Melbourne duo who go by the rather nondescript name Boy + Girl. As a live act they’ve supported Justice, Busy P and Boys Noize, and their sound has seen them compared to fellow indie-electro crossover acts like the Midnight Juggernauts and The Presets. Big things are expected of them in 2008 with a trip to the UK on the cards and a stack of remix work lined up. Keep your eyes out for the Boy + Girl name!

Percussion Junction – Hardup
‘Hardup’ is lifted from Sydney live act Percussion Junction’s debut album ‘The Beat Cartel’. As the name suggests tribal rhythms are the core of Percussion Junction’s sound, and they stand out from your usual electronica live act with three drummers onstage busting out everything from hip hop and breaks to house. They’re undertaking a live tour of NSW throughout April and May, so be sure to check them out if they swing through your town.
