This episode we’re taking the wraps off a fresh new format. The inthemix podcasts are now enhanced! If you listen via iTunes make sure you enable the album artwork in the bottom right hand corner, as for each track we’ve included an image and a link through to find out more about the artist on inthemix. It might be a review of their album, a streaming DJ mix, their latest video clip or a news item with tour dates. Just click the image at any time to find out more! We’ve put together a big episode to celebrate, so stay tuned for new music from UK electro funk 5-piece Crazy Penis, the Boom Bip and Gruff Rhys side project Neon Neon and German duo Moonbootica. We’ll also be speaking with The Aston Shuffle and Kissy Sell Out about their brand new Ministry Of Sound ‘Mashed’ CD release, as well as featuring the hot Robert Babiczs remix of Deepchild and the latest from Lutzenkirchen.
Feature Artists
The Aston Shuffle & Kissy Sell Out
Terry Poison – 24 Hours (Aston Shuffle’s A-Bomb) [Drag & Drop]
Ministry of Sound got club kids around Australia excited in March when they announced they were resurrecting their ‘Mashed’ series of mix CDs, with the first new mix set for release in over 18 months this April. It’s been compiled by two of the electro and house scene’s hottest new names; Kissy Sell Out from the UK and local lads The Aston Shuffle. About to head out on a tour of Australia to support its release, we caught up with both Mikah of The Aston Shuffle and Kissy Sell Out to talk about the new CD.

Crazy Penis – Love On The Line [Tinted/MRA]
Crazy Penis have always had something of an affinity for Australian audiences, having brought their deep and funky live show down under too many times to mention in recent years. Visiting us last in March, the band were in town to showcase music from their latest album. If you’re a fan be sure to check it out, as it’s chock full of their signature electro-funk sound. From it, this is the album’s title track and first single, ‘Love On The Line’.

Deepchild – Fractures (Robert Babicz Remix) [BEEF Records]
Over the past few years Aussie producer Deepchild has continued to see his profile grow across Europe, so much so that he’s actually basing himself over there these days. If his MySpace page location is to be believed he’s currently jumping between Berlin, Edinburgh and London, and after being a little quiet on the release front following his 2006 album ‘Lifetime’, he’s got a fresh new 12” out this month.

Lutzenkirchen – Back In Time (Caninesounds Remix) [Spin Out]
To date, German producer Tobias Lutzenkirchen has been prolific with his output of singles and remixes throughout his career, having first broke through in 2005 with his track ‘Daily Disco’ on the Great Stuff Recordings label. He’s remixed names like John Digweed, Meat Katie and Coburn, and he also has his own label, Tabula Raza, which he started with Systematic-boss Marc Romboy. Based in Munich, Lutzenkirchen runs a studio with fellow super producer Tomcraft, and he just released a new EP on UK label Spin Out.

Moonbootica – Der Mond [Tinted/MRA]
When it comes to the German electronic music scene we usually only end up hearing about what’s coming out of Berlin. But it’s a big country, so it’s no surprise that there are producers making top quality stuff in other German cities. One such city is Hamburg, and sitting at the top of its burgeoning dance scene is the duo known as Moonbootica. They’ve released a stack of 12” and remixes throughout their career, getting exposure in the electro, house and tech scene. They have a new album out now called ‘Moonlight Welfare’, which also has a bonus disc of remixes from artists like Tom Novy, Eyerer & Chopstick, Gus Gus and Dadalife.

Neon Neon – I Lust U [Lex/Inertia]
What happens when the charismatic frontman of a Welsh indie band teams up with an underground hip hop producer from LA? They make a concept album about John DeLorean, the guy who made the flying car from Back To The Future. Seems logical, right? Neon Neon is a new project from Gruff Rhys of the Super Furry Animals and Boom Bip. They’ve just released their album ‘Stainless Style’, and from it that was ‘I Lust U’. It’s an interesting album, so be sure to check it out if you like your music a little left of centre.
