Session 57 feat. Santogold

inthemix Podcast

inthemix podcast session 57 – the second of our brand new ‘enhanced podcasts’! A reminder to those who might have missed it in our last episode; the inthemix podcasts are now much more advanced! If you’re listening to us through iTunes make sure you’ve enabled album artwork in the bottom left hand corner, because with track we play there’s an image and link included so you can find out more about the artist.

For session 57 we’ve once again put together an episode chock full of the most upfront tunes to come our way these past few weeks. We speak with Santogold, who has set the online world alight with her tracks over the past few years. She finally releases her album this month, with tracks produced by everyone from Spank Rock and MIA, to Diplo and even Freq Nasty. Not to be outdone, we’ve also got Mr Oizo’s twisted remix of Jamie Lidell’s new single, the super fresh Switch rework of Azzido Da Bass’s classic ‘Dooms Night’, as well as new club tracks from Richard Dinsdale, Loco Dice and Boys Noize.

Feature Artist

Santogold – Creator [Downtown Records/Inertia]
Born and raised in Philadelphia but now based in Brooklyn, Santogold has become something of an overnight sensation in the blogging and online community these past few years. She’s worked with a staggering list of producers, some of the coolest names in underground electronic music including Switch, Diplo, Spank Rock, M.I.A. and Freq Nasty, and after what seems like ages she’ll finally release her long awaited debut album this month. Starting out as the singer in a punk band, we caught up with her to find out how she came to the sound she’s currently pushing as an artist, and what it was like working with such an imposing list of producers.

Also on this podcast…

Jamie Lidell – Little Bit Of Feel Good (Mr Oizo Remix) [Warp/Inertia]
‘Little Bit Of Feel Good’ is the first single to be lifted from Jamie Lidell’s brand new album, simply titled ‘Jim’. It once again sees the Berlin based musical identity heading down the soul path, but of course he’s put a unique twist on things. This is a remix of the single turned in by French electro fiend Mr Oizo, who’ll be visiting Australia in June.

Azzido Da Bass – Dooms Night 08 (Switch Remix) [Tinted/MRA]
If you’ve been in the club scene for more than a few years, this track will no doubt elicited some rather vivid flashbacks. One of the biggest tunes of 2000, it’s Azzido Da Bass’s classic tune ‘Dooms Night’, which has been given a stack of fresh remixes for 2008. There’s one from Italian fidget house duo Crookers, breakbeat dons the Stanton Warriors, and also one by Azzido himself. This, however, is the rework turned in by Counterfeet label boss Switch.

Boys Noize – &Down (Siriusmo vs Boys Noize Remix) [BNR/Inertia]
Electro fans were sent into a spin late last year when Boys Noize released his debut album. The young Berlin based producer has had a ridiculously long list of artists champion his music, everyone from Soulwax to Justice and Digitalism singing his praise. It seems the stature of artists keen to remix his work is just as impressive, with a new album just released bringing together the best of the bunch all in one place. There’s contributions from Feadz of Ed Banger, A-Trak, Para One of Institubes and many more. This is Boys Noize’s very own remake of his track ‘&Down’, which sees him teaming up with Siriusmo.

Richard Dinsdale – Blitzkrieg (Mic Newman Remix) [Spin Out]
Richard Dinsdale just toured Australia, playing along the east coast for Climate Music Festival in April. The producer has been going from strength to strength in recent years, with releases on labels like Renaissance and Toolroom. A resident of The Ministry Of Sound’s London club, he recently unleashed his latest track. Titled ‘Blitzkrieg’, it’s released on UK label Spin Out Records, and here we’ve got the Mic Newman remix for you to sample.

Loco Dice – M Train To Brooklyn [Desolat]
Heading up German label Desolat, Loco Dice finally releases his long awaited debut album this month. Having relocated to New York while writing the album, his new location obviously had an affect with the first single titled ‘M Train To Brooklyn’. While writing the album he shared a studio space with fellow German production wonder and longtime collaborator Martin Buttrich. It’s a release that has minimal fans quite hot under the collar. Be sure to check it out!
