A special edition episode; we take a look at some of the artists on this year’s Parklife tour! Proudly supported by inthemix, Parklife is shaping up to be the festival’s biggest year yet, once again hitting capital cities around the country in September and October. Grab the podcast as we’ll be featuring a stack of top quality tunes from artists like Bag Raiders, Grafton Primary, Familjen, Miami Horror, Morgan Geist of Metro Area, Slyde and more!
On this podcast…
Bag Raiders – Turbo Love (INTHEMIX EXCLUSIVE!)
The Bag Raiders are quite possibly the hottest production duo in Australia right night, and they’re fast gaining a reputation in the US and Europe with their track ‘Fun Punch’ picked up by A-Trak for his label Fool’s Gold. This is a tasty little exclusive we’ve lined up for you; their brand new unreleased track ‘Turbo Love’, which will be released on the Bang Gang 12 Inches label soon.
Grafton Primary – I Can Cook (Miami Horror Remix)
Sydney electro-rock 3-piece Grafton Primary have finally released their debut album. It’s been a long time coming, so it seems quite appropriate they’ve named it ‘Eon’. Their track ‘I Can Cook’ was given a remix by Miami Horror, one of Melbourne’s finest, not too long ago. It’s been doing the rounds on blogs internationally, causing quite a stir.
Slyde – Frequency (Miles Dyson Remix)
In 2008 Slyde released their debut album on the Finger Lickin’ label, and they’re heading back to Australia for the first time in ages to give you a taste as part of Parklife. They’ll be joined by Finger Lickin’ label-mates and reigning overlords of all things breakbeat, the Plump DJs!
Morgan Geist (Metro Area) feat. Jerry Greenspan – The Shore
When Metro Area were announced for Parklife it had househeads around Australia shaking at the knees. As far as we can tell the legendary NYC duo, made up of Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani haven’t actually toured Australia together before, so this is an exciting first! Geist has his debut solo album out to coincide with the tour, and from it this is ‘The Shore’, which features vocals from Jerry Greenspan of Junior Boys.
Familjen – Huvudet I Sanden
Don’t worry if you don’t understand a single word in this song, because truth be told we don’t either. After all, we don’t speak Swedish. It’s the latest single from Familjen, who’ll visit Australia for the first time to play Parklife this year.
Neon Neon – I Lust U (Heartbreak Remix)
Neon Neon sees Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys and underground hip hop producer Boom Bip joining forces for a concept album of futuristic electro-pop. The album, called ‘Stainless Style’, has been one of 2008’s most acclaimed releases, even nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in the UK recently.
Snob Scrilla – There You Go Again (Hey Now DJs Remix)
One of the freshest artists on this year’s Parklife bill, Sydney MC Snob Scrilla has been winning fans in the hip hop, indie and club scene throughout 2008. His debut EP ‘The Day Before’ was released on Ivy League a few months back, and here’s a remix turned in by the Hey Now DJs.
Elektrons feat. Mpho Skeef – Classic Cliche
The final track of our Parklife podcast spectacular, it’s ‘Classic Cliche’ from UK outfit the Elektrons, who broken beat fans may know under their previous identity; the Unabombers. In 2007 they released their first album as the Elektrons, and it’s spawned a number of club hits, including ‘Dirty Basement’ and ‘Get Up’.
