With the Future Music Festival about to kick off its national tour for 2009, we decided it was time to take a closer look at one of the event’s more interesting artists; the enigmatic man of Ed Banger, Mr Oizo. We speak with him about his new album ‘Lamb’ Anger’, and also feature the Midfield General re-edit of his single ‘Positif’ a little later on. Of course that’s not all, as we’ve also got fresh stuff from Diplo, Kevin Griffiths, Jaime Fanatic, Edu K, The Qemists, Harmonic 313 and more.

Mr Oizo – Positif (Midfield General Reedit)
Enigmatic French producer Mr Oizo is truly one of the dance scene’s most iconic producers, with a well established reputation for pushing the boundaries with his unique brand of wonky, disco heavy electronica. Shooting to stardom with the worldwide hit ‘Flat Beat’, he took a step back from the spotlight follow its success when he encountered a nasty case of writers block. Aligned with the Ed Banger crew for the past few years, he’s now got a brand new album called ‘Lamb’s Anger’, and he’s heading to Australia for this year’s Future Music Festival. We caught up with Oizo – aka Quentin Dupieux – to talk about his long held love of film, and also how he came to find himself working with the Ed Banger label.

Diplo – Smash a Kangaroo
One of Phillie’s finest; Diplo has had a massive few years since the release of his debut album ‘Florida’ back in 2004. He’s established a profile as one of the dance scene’s most revered tastemakers. His label Big Dada have now compiled a ‘best of’ with a stack of his finest remix and production work. It’s called ‘Decent Work For Decent Pay’, and from it this is his tribute to Australia; ‘Smash A Kangaroo’.

Kevin Griffiths – Cantona Kung Fu
Starting this fortnight’s episode we’ve got a new track from UK producer, DJ and label owner Kevin Griffiths, who is expanding his Tsuba empire with a new sub-label named Tsuba Colours. It’s the first track on the new imprint and it comes from Griffiths himself. It’s titled ‘Cantona Kung Fu’... Yep, it’s named in honour of the kick-boxing soccer player himself, Eric Cantona!
Edu K feat. MC Gaff-E – Raver Lovin (Nadastrom Remix)
Jackin’ rave, fidget house or baile funk – whatever you want to call it, Brazilian MC Edu K is doing his best to make a lot of noise. Returning to Australia in February for a national tour, he’s also put out a new release on local label Sweat It Out. Called ‘Raver Lovin’, there’s a stack of suitably noisy remixes in the package, including this one here from Nadastrom.
The Qemists feat. Mike Patton – Lost Weekend
If you’re a fan of Pendulum you’ll no doubt also find The Qemists a band you want to check out. The UK outfit fuse rock and electronica and their album ‘Join The Q’ out on Ninja Tune very soon. If the vocals on this one sound familiar to your ear there’s a very good reason for that – they managed to rope in genuine rock royalty to contribute; Mike Patton of Faith No More!
Harmonic 313 – Dirtbox
Based in Sydney, there’s no denying British producer Mark Pritchard’s musical pedigree, having released under a stack of names over the years including Troubleman, Jedi Knights and Global Communication. He’s about to release his latest album project under the Harmonic 313 name. Coming out through respected label Warp Records, it’s called ‘When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence’, and from it this is ‘Dirtbox’.
