Major Lazer feat. Santigold & Mr Lex – Hold The Line

Individually, they’re two of the most in-demand names in club music right now, so when they join forces you can rest assured the results will be explosive. Riding high on a wave of hype and anticipation, Diplo and Switch teamed up – in Jamaica no less – to collaborate on an album under the name Major Lazer. Combing the sounds of dancehall and reggae with the cutting edge approach to club music that we’ve come to know and expect from names like Dilpo and Switch, they’ve also called on a long list of guests to give the album extra weight. We caught up with Diplo recently to find out how he and Switch initially hatched the Major Lazer idea, and whether they have plans to bring the live show to Australia sometime soon…

Bag Raiders – Turbo Love (Spruce Lee Remix)
Having just recently returned from a jaunt across the US of A, the Bag Raiders have a brand new EP of remixes ready to go on the Bang Gang 12 Inches label. It’s a fresh batch of reworks of their 2008 dancefloor destroyer ‘Turbo Love’, with highlights contributed by K.I.M. from The Presets and Shinichi Osawa, and also this one right here from Sydney’s own Spruce Lee.

It’s getting a lot of support overseas, with Morgan Page, Mowgli, Tom Novy and Phil Hartnoll all giving it praise. Lee Coombs & Uberzone – Right Now (Dopamine Remix)
Since relocating to Florida from the UK Lee Coombs has continued his journey down the tech-funk path, and his latest release sees him teaming up with LA based producer Uberzone for ‘Right Now’. It’s released on Meat Katie’s label Lot49, and here we’ve got a remix from Australia’s own Dopamine. It’s the first single from Coombs’ forthcoming artist album – it’ll be his first in over 5 years!

Mr Jigga – Faded (Mic Newman Remix)
The newest single from Melbourne three-piece Mr Jigga is called ‘Faded’ and it’s lifted from their recent released self-titled debut album. Featuring local soul singer Jade MacRae out front, the band called on fellow Melbournite Mic Newman to contribute the remix, and it’s bound to have clubbers in a sweaty frenzy this winter.

Reuben Keeney – Saxophone (Paolo Mojo Remix)
Having won the Best New Artist award at the Irish Dance Music Awards earlier in 2009, Reuben Keeney has been tipped as one to watch in the future. With remixes already under his belt for house luminaries like Richard Dinsdale and Funkagenda, as well as releases signed to Global Underground, here’s his latest for Spin Out Records, ‘Saxophone’, remixed by Paolo Mojo.

Kikumoto Allstars – House Music
Take one listen to Kikumoto Allstars and you’ll be instantly transported back to Chicago in the late 80s, with the sounds of original acid house along the lines of Marshall Jefferson and Larry Heard the order of the day. Would you believe it, then, that this producer is actually based out of Melbourne? His debut album is coming out on DJ Hell’s Gigolo Records label, and this is its title track, appropriately called ‘House Music’.
