For this fortnight’s episode we’re continuing our headfirst dive into party season by taking a look at the Godskitchen Boombox tour that kicks off this weekend. We’ll be chatting to headliners Cosmic Gate and listening to one of their latest tunes. We’ve also got new music from DJ Hell, Riva Starr, Meat Katie, Slyde and more.

This weekend sees the return of the annual Godskitchen tour, and this year they’ll be bringing something pretty special over from Europe – the audio-visual spectacular that is known as the ‘Boombox’. Providing the music to go behind all those pretty lights will be headliners Cosmic Gate. They’ve be a mainstay in the trance scene for over a decade, but they’re stronger than ever at the moment. This year they’ve delivered some huge remixes for the likes of Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk, as well as releasing their new artist album ‘Sign of the Times’, which is out now on 405 Recordings. ITM caught up with Cosmic Gate recently to talk about their return to the country as part of the ‘Godskitchen Boombox’ tour.

Giuseppe Ottaviani – One Day

First up though, we’ve got a track from Italian trance producer Giuseppe Ottaviani, who was recently in the country supporting Ferry Corsten on his ‘Twice in a Blue Moon’ tour. Guiseppe is one of the most polished producers working in dance music, and here we’ve got the opening track off his brand new album ‘Go’ which is out now on ‘405 Recordings’.

Germany’s DJ Hell has been a part of the dance music underground since the early 90s, but he’s had probably his biggest year yet in 2009. His epic double-album ‘Teufelswerk’ earned him rave reviews, with the Guardian in the UK describing it as one of the best dance albums of all time. In October he’ll be returning to Australia for his ‘A night of International Deejay Gigolos’ tour, and to celebrate, we’ve got the Paul Woolford mix of his new single ‘The DJ’, featuring none other than P Diddy. That’s right, it’s the same track that sparked off the war of words with Felix Da Housecat!

Meat Katie – The Real El Santos
UK DJ/producer Meat Katie was known as a supporter of breakbeat in the early days in his career, but genre boundaries were never going to hold him down and he soon developed his own ‘tech funk’ sound, where anything goes. Techno, electro, breaks, you name it. He’s just released his brand new EP ‘The Tension’ on his Lot49 record label, and from that we have ‘The Real El Santos’, a heavy-duty techno number that will do plenty of damage in the clubs, Meat Katie style.

Slyde – Block Parties
Summer is just about here, with the Parklife tour going down around the country as we speak, and in the spirit of that we’ve got a tune that we reckon pretty much captures that summer festival vibe. Breakbeat veterans Slyde have been a regular at our summer parties over the years, and here we’ve got their brand new single ‘Block Parties’, which has a wicked old-school hip hop feel to it.

Riva Starr – Black Cat White Cat
Italian producer Riva Starr has been a massive hit in the blogosphere since he shifted over from his Madox alias and pursuing a fidgety, mashed up sound, and at the moment he’s putting the finishing touches on his debut album. ‘If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade’ will be out shortly on Made To Play, and here we’ve got one of the first singles off it called ‘Black Cat White Cat’.

Kolab – Soul To Shine
And now we’ve got one last track for this fortnight’s episode that summons the summer party season. DNBBQ returns to Sydney this Saturday, and one of the slower-tempoed acts that’ll be playing at this installment will be New Zealand hip hop act Kolab. The Kiwi trio bring cruisy and soulful hip hop vibes with a strong jazz influence, and here we’ve got their single ‘Soul to Shine’. Check them out at DBNBBQ this weekend.
