Established in January of this year, Melbourne-based tech house record label Infamous Light Recordings is a label with a difference.  Rather than be your traditional vinyl or CD producing record label, it’s a purely digital only label, with their music released solely as MP3s online.

Jairus Miller’s Feng Shui EP marks their third release.  After being exposed to music from a young age, Jairus began releasing music online in 1998.  Now at only 23 years of age the talented American is already taking his music global, “striving to transcend geographical and genre boundaries”.

Falling into the nu progressive spectrum of tech house, Feng Shui EP shows a forward thinking style willing to explore the reaches of the tech house genre, whilst maintaining a dance floor sensibility.

First up on the EP is Discosaurus, described as “a rare and beautiful animal…nocturnal in nature, eclectic in taste, and dazzling in plumage”.  Not exactly a disco track, instead Discosaurus contains very danceable driving beats, with dubbed-out textures and weird sounding synths layered over the top.

The next track is the dark futuristic Cobra.  A hypnotic, shimmering synth melody and twisting bassline combine to “burrow deep into the brain stem”.  This is followed by the not at all sleeplike Somnaural.  An upfront track that combines progressive sounds and tribal percussion, it’s well suited to late at night when you’re doing anything but sleeping.

The EP is rounded up with Physics Girl.  Complex beats and futuristic sounds combine on this slower track, well described as a piece of “techno influenced abstract futurism”.

I’m not sure what it’ll do for your Feng Shui, but I highly recommend downloading this EP.
