As dope as it is despicable, I was expecting a lot more from this release. After the release of 3,2,1 with Skillz I was looking forward to big bass, funk laced, solid hip hop. Whilst it is that, it is also some terrible rnb style ballads and horrid vocals to keep the ladies happy. Categorically, the album looks like this;

Love;

3,2,1 feat. Skillz (also the Remix feat. Con Psy, PNC & Skillz) – Just a really great beat, with some fun MC’s. I like the original moreso than the remix, only cos Con Psy’s average verse isn’t on it. But PNC is definitely warming me to the concept of NZ hip hop (SKEET! SKEET!).

We Dem Niggaz feat. Aasim & Capone. So ridiculously wannabe gangster that it’s certified gold.

Get Back feat. Con Psy & PNC - Just a fun track, with a fun beat, and some fun mc’s. They have a great flow and chemistry and the whole thing is just good. Simple but good.

Easy Money feat. Sauce Money – Fucking Dope. This is the only real, solid hip hop joint on the album.

Like;

I had None feat. Mystro – Mainly cos I have respect for Mystro as an MC and remember his many performances in Melbourne as some of the best I’ve seen in a long time. The track isn’t anything special lyrically, but it still flows well and delivers – it’s just the subject matter that is the downfall. Nothing to Something, Rags to Riches – When the fuck is hip hop going to realise no one really cares. Production is fairly offputting, more hamster samples and unengaging drumlines and weak piano melodies.

Represent feat. Roc Raida – I have no qualms with this track, and have a certain level of respect for P-Money, that he could get someone of this calibre to do a track with him. Still turntablism, similar to children, is better seen than heard.

Tolerate;

Turn it Up feat. Tyna & Scribe – The lyrics are fairly terrible, as is the beat, but it’s not completely horrible. Well it doesn’t deserve ‘hate’.

Get Up Slow feat. Con Psy – It’s a really slow, reflective track on quite a heavy beat. I want party tracks – that’s what P-Money does best. This was just a waste of album space.

Anyway feat. Bobby Creekwater & Aasim – It’s just mediocre. There isn’t really anything bad or anything good about it, it just is what it is, which I find boring.

Driven feat Scribe – Anyone that has ever read any of my reviews is probably expecting violent slander. You get points for knowing I hate it, but it’s better than most tracks on the Crusader.

Stop the Music feat. Scribe – the hook is pretty dope, but it only lasts 15 seconds at a time, and that isn’t much when it’s only played 3 or so times in a 5:09 minute track. Scribe has good flow, he just never really has much to say, and this is no exception.

Hate;

Keep on Callin’ feat. Akon - Shitful. Absolutely Horrendous. Just terribly generic and repeditive. It reminds me of that terrible ‘Turn Me On’ pseudo jungle/reggae track that invaded commercial radio not long ago.

Two Step feat. Jatis – I was hoping that someone heeded my disgust when P-Money dropped pitched up, female vocal sampling on the Crusader, but apparently I wasn’t so lucky. The Hampster on Steroids sounds of sampling make a return on this Modern Nelly style track where Jatis is talking and crooning with nothing actually being said.

Bonus Track – Ok Beat, but some dickhead gangster who sounds like he smoked two decks of Marlboro Red’s before he recorded the verse, isn’t even tolerable.

What I find the most humerous is the inside cover artwork. P-Money & Scribe in terrible suits, sippin champagne with scantily clad women. Sorry guys – YOU ARE NOT GANGSTERS, and you look ridiculous. So if we combine the love and like categories, we find a total of 6 tracks. Tolerate and hate totals at 8, so we can basically say this album is reminiscent of a love/hate relationship.

When it’s good it’s sex and chocolates. When it’s bad it’s screaming and facial slapping. I guess it just depends how much you love P-Money.
