Avicii’s concert at Super Glow in DC was my first Avicii show. It was an absolutely packed house and an unbelievable environment. I have been a fan of Avicii’s for quite sometime now and love the way he is able to remix just about any song as well as play his most famous productions. The concert consisted of 38 tracks ranging from his popular productions to different artists remix. The concert lasted for almost three hours and I will definitely be attending more in the future.
One of the main facets of his music that strike me is his complex and intense transitions to different tracks. Avicii uses a Pioneer DJM-900 mixer, which is used to help beat mash most of tracks at different shows. The equipment he uses is very complex and has many different facets that allow for complex mixing. Some of the things I like most about his show that I attended was the amount of mixing that he does to each song which makes every concert he does very unique. One specific aspect that helps him keep the same beat consistent throughout the concert is a simple button on his mixer called the BPM lock. This simple tool allows him to play any song at any time with the same BPM or beats per minute. He can change this setting at any time, which allows for smooth flowing transitions into each track.
Another aspect of Avicii’s concert is the way that he is able to control the crowd. His entire concert is dedicated to producing build-ups and drops that absolutely rock the house. At this particular show in DC I don’t ever remember one dull moment and it seemed as though a beat could drop at any time. The energy throughout the crowd was intense to say the least. I could feel the ground shaking every time there was a drop. Some of my favorite tracks from the show included Levels (original mix vs. Alex Vizti Intro Edit), ID2, and The Island (Steve Angello, AN21 & Max Vengeli Remix).
Levels was probably the one song that I thought absolutely everyone went nuts over when he played it about halfway through the set. Levels was an original production by Avicii that uses high pitch synths to give it a beat that is like no other. The mix of the different synthesizers, as well as the bass bumps, gives it an anthem feel that is truly unexplainable. This song has been a number 1 hit all over the world in the past year.
This concert that I attended in DC was one that I will truly never forget. It was my first Avicii concert but not my first house concert. I have attended concerts by Afrojack and Armin van Buuren and Avicii’s was just as good if not better. I hope to attend many more house concerts in the future and will never stop listening to Avicii. He truly is one of a kind and I highly recommend attending any performance you possibly can.
