After packing The Moon Bar to the rafters with Canberra progressive house prodigy Jaytech in September, the Elements crew return for one final time in 2006 with their very first international guest.
Over the past five years UK dirty house duo King Unique have established themselves as one of the most prolific production and remix outfits on the planet. Tracks like ‘Flashing Lights’, ‘Curfew Time’, ‘To The Left’ and their massive remix of Suicide Sports Club’s ‘I Don’t Know’ (which featured on Steve Lawler’s outstanding Lights Out 3 compilation in 2005) have been staples in the CD wallets of dance music’s big guns – Dave Seaman, Pete Tong and Sasha are just some of the superstars who have championed their signature fat synth riffs, bulldozer beats and electronic craziness.
The two Matts (Thomas and Roberts) have now done a musical about-face, releasing the cracking double-header ‘Zoom In’/’Zoom Out’ under the Kupon alias. The tracks show the influence of the minimal German sound currently taking over the world, an influence which also rears its head on their freshly minted Electric 02 compilation for rising Australian electronica label EQ Recordings.
The ‘Separated at Perth’ tour sees Matt ‘Watkins’ Thomas hitting Brisbane for Elements:7 to perform a special Ableton Live set while his partner in crime tackles the northern hemisphere. Teaming the latest Novation MIDI controller keyboard with Ableton’s world famous Live software, Matt will be kicking out the trademark fat dirty King Unique jams, layering up vocal accapellas, virtual acid synths, classic beat-loops and then feeding the whole lot through the same effects and sonic treatments that have made KU’s remixes and productions a mainstay of the underground house scene.
The local support cast as always showcases some of Brisbane’s finest live and DJ talent, with progressive-tech comeback kid Murray Antill and broken electro-tech duo Segue pumping out 100% live tuneage alongside DJs Nat Monaghan and Kris-Ko . With Jaymis once again on visual duties and AMPT Productions transforming The Moon Bar as only they know how, the Elements crew look to be wrapping up their 2006 party series with their biggest event yet.
