Theo Parrish, house music’s saviour, deep disco’s re-animator, techno’s cheeky cousin, is coming to Sydney for an epic set at Space Is The Place.

Raised in Chicago on a diet of Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder and his jazz uncle Dexter Sims, Theo had a nightclub epiphany when he witnessed the legendary Lil’ Louis abusing a DJ mixer with magical results. In 1986, at the age of thirteen, he began producing and DJing. At art school he concentrated on Sound Sculpture, a form of orchestration using live instruments, looped recordings, the human voice and numerous other sound generating devices. Leaving art school in 94 he moved to Michigan and ended up in Detroit, contributing heavily to the local scene and finding like-minded souls in the form of Kenny Dixon Jr (aka Moodymann), Marcellus Pittman, Rick Wade et al, pioneering the Detroit Beatdown sound – slow, heavy, deep, hip-hop influenced, fucked-up house music.

These days Theo is a world-renowned producer and DJ. His releases – be they original productions or his red hot Ugly Edit series of old school disco edits – fly off the shelves as quickly as they arrive, each one becoming an instant collectible classic. His DJ sets are the stuff of legend – long, epic affairs that showcase what must be one of the deadliest record collections in the world. Expect quality house both old and new, rare disco, banging techno, heavy funk and soul, crazy jazz and a sprinkling of dub reggae, woven together by an expert going spastic at the controls, tweaking each and every tune for maximum flavour. Theo goes deep, goes heavy, goes leftfield but NEVER fails to bring the party. A true galactic explorer who we are honoured to have join us aboard our interstellar voyages.
