A night of oldschool, breakbeat, jungle techno and drum n bass brought to you by a hand picked selection of Sydney’s sharpest selectors still in the game today, hosted by none other than one of the sharpest MC’s around, Ozi Batla.
Mixing it up over a vast spectrum of sounds ranging from the late 80’s through to the late 90’s, internationally renown DJ Mark N will bring the roughest and toughest oldschool breakbeats and jungle around. Sub Bass Snarl need no introduction on any discussion on oldschool beats. If you were at any warehouse rave in the early 90’s or even caught their recent oldschool special on their long running Paradigm Shift radio show on 2ser, you would know to expect the most underground techno, acid and jungle ever produced. Likewise, original Sydney junglists Vaughan, Ritual and Alf are reunited with Ozi Battla for one special night, bringing those hard stepping jungle and drum and bass rollers as if it 1996 all over. To round off Victim and Semper Fi bring the vintage ragga and dark jungle flavas in a back to back classic set.

Mark N
Mark N is one of the under-appreciated renegade figures in Australian electronic music. Immensely hard-working and driven, he has more notoriety overseas than locally, having toured extensively through North America and Europe first with his now defunct trio Nasenbluten, and later solo as Overcast and as a fierce DJ. Growing up and running things from Newcastle, a city two hours drive north of Sydney once famous for its now-closed steel works, he has enormous pride in his roots. His ‘take no shit’ attitude and deadpan, self-deprecating humour have been responsible (together with Aaron Lubinski and Dave Melo) for Nasenbluten’s noisy, grating and harsh music, which has been released on labels all over the world, including Industrial Strength. Becoming frustrated with putting music out on other people’s labels, Mark set up Bloody Fist Records – a name that still gets him strange cold calls from telemarketers. Bloody Fist steadfastly refused to release music from anyone outside of the Newcastle region. His later solo productions as Overcast are for the most part dark, menacing relentless drum’n’bass, but also explore cut ups and other tempos, whilst his highly technical DJs skills, including wins at the DMC and ITF championships, have irritated many in the local hip hop community who see him, rightly, as an outsider and a threat. Original Nasenbluten records trade for ridiculous figures on eBay, and every release from his Bloody Fist label is a collectable. Mark ceremonially closed down Bloody Fist on its 10th anniversary and moved interstate. He vows to return to Newcastle to retire, and when he does maybe the Newcastle mayor will present him with the keys to the city.

Ritual & Alf
Both Ritual and Alf started playing out in the mid 90’s. Ritual started playing in the beginning of ‘96. Well known gigs with Green n’ Jazzy were a night of everything from funk, to downtempo and DnB. He then championed the Drum and Bass sound from there on following the likes of Bukem, Full Cycle, MIST and Calibre up to his own productions with Jungle Expeditions and Conscious Rebel Music. Alf first hooked up with Ozi Batla to rollout some hip hop and jungle biznezz sometime in the mid 90s at the Cricketers Arms. He co-promoted and was resident DJ for legendary Sonic Fiction nights in a grimey club called Frontier….Later on a new concept called Airbourne was formed to showcase to a wider audience of Drum’n’bass and Beatz lovers.
He has collaborated with Gerry 23break; Ritual; Prince V; Sulo; Munk; Jase Foreign Dub; P_O Foreign Dub; Urthboy; Ozi Batla; Dave Edwards; Murda1; Vice Versa; Semper Fi; and supported the likes of Blackalicious, Michael Franti, Squarepusher, Photek, Hermitude, Concord Dawn, Hilltophoods, DJ Hype, Roni Size and several more..

Vaughan
Vaughan started doing the Montage radio show on 2ser in 1996. Playing at events such as Jungle Massive’s Zulu Base at Club 77 and involvement in the infamous Freaky Loops parties. Vaughan was one of main players in Jungle scene in Sydney in the 90’s. He was the first to run a Drum and Bass radio show in Sydney, around the time Dave Edwards kicked off Bass Code. Others active around this time were Matt & Kayla General Grabber and the Jungle Massive Crew but Vaughan was the first to pioneer drum and bass on Sydney airwaves. He exposed the jungle sound to a wide spectrum of punters that attended the Freaky Loops parties in the late 90’s and championed local producers like V-Tek, BrothelOwner, Pilfinators and Sulo and much of the Elephant Trax crew.

Victim
DJ Victim’s first exposure to electronic music was in the Sydney rave scene in the early 90’s. After hearing early music from Congo Natty, Altern8, Remarc and many others he was initially drawn to early Breakbeat and Jungle Techno and began following labels such as Suburban Base, Reinforced, Congo Natty, Kemet, Production House and various other Jungle imprints of that time. Upon further discovery he discovered music of a similar vein produced locally by the likes of Syndicate, Nasenbluten and Embolism.
