Spherix
“Spherix is gonna be very big, this guy from down under has some
serious talent.” Deapoh (Baredubs Records UK)
Recent releases from Spherix including Blackwood, Crack Kingz and Screwloose (12” and 10” out on Bare Dubs) and Look Back feat. Kwailty/Drone (10” out on Tube10 Recordings) have enjoyed immediate acclaim from the Hench Crew, 2nd Drop Recordings, Hotflush, Hessle Audio and Random Trio.
Riding high on these success South Pacific experimental Dubstep label Sub
Continental Dub presents it’s debut release SUBDUB001 Spherix – Goblin/Dub Chemistry out June 30 2008 and distributed by Z Audio UK.
Sub Continental Dub is truly a pioneering label, the first Australian Dubstep label to release an Australian Dubstep artist – a landmark event in the development of the South Pacific Dubstep scene. And what a release it is!
Goblin uses tastefully placed drum edits and jazzy soulful synths layered over a dirty pulsating bassline that sparingly breaks it’s restraint into an unstoppable floor moving groove.Dub Chemistry is a deep, dark and intimidatingly heavy “Dubby” Dubstep tune that just keeps building and morphing. A modern extension on the tradition of King Tubby and Augustus Pablo.
Spherix is a producer pushing the boundaries of the Dubstep genre.
Not content with adhering to the tired and generic formula pursued by many, Spherix’s take on the Dubstep sound is refreshingly unique and another example of the possibilities that exist for Dubstep if an artist is prepared to go walkabout.

Flippo
Flippo a.k.a David Phillips has been producing various electronica from the sleepy sand dunes of coastal Victoria for a few years now. A long time fan of the sounds of drum & bass and I.D.M, it was the rapid emergence of Dubstep in 2006 that catalysed a more active roll of producing and eventually DJ’ing. Flippo has come along way since, with international recognition from as high as BBC Radio1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs, two vinyl records released on international labels, as well as co-founding the newly formed ‘Sub Continental Dub’ label with fellow bass fiend Westernsynthetics due to launch in June.
Flippo’s debut Dubstep single ‘Rain’ (Pressing Issues, UK) typifies the sound. A cerebral affair of organic textures and warm ambience layered over a deep foundation of bass movement, exhibiting a much more progressive structure than typical Dubstep. Slowly building into a crescendo of cascading polyrhythm and webs of glitch, the end result is abstract yet strikingly music track. Along with playing support for Goth Trad (JAPAN) and Foreign Beggars (UK) in Melbourne, Flippo will be travelling to Sydney in July as one of the headlining acts for Void’s Australian Dubstep Showcase special. Flippo is also gearing up to take his sound outdoors, and will be rolling deep and heavy at various festivals later in the year.
