Headroom feat. Monky Fly with Camilla Hill!

Saturday, 13th September @ Brighton Up Bar
inthemix.com.au
  • on the door: $5 before 1
  • Over 18's only

This month we pull an ace out of our sleeve as resident Monk Fly steps up to launch his new EP and showcase his smokin’ sounds.

Monk Fly was an original member of Elefant Traks, a label now known for “some of Australia’s best hip hop, dub and broken beats” (Juice Magazine). After Elefant Traks, Monk Fly continued on to set up The Frequency Lab, an artist run initiative – offering affordable performance, recording and exhibiting space. The Frequency Lab ran for 5 years as a venue and became known as “the breeding ground for Sydney’s creative music community”. The Frequency Lab has since evolved into one of Australia’s most innovative new music labels.

Monk Fly’s latest Frequency Lab release, ‘An Afternoon With Camilla’, is a beautiful collaboration with Sydney vocalist Camilla Hill. It’s hauntingly timeless music infused with Monk Fly’s sensibility of atmosphere and downtempo beats overlaid with the delicate and soulful tone of Camilla Hill. Camilla’s delicate, soulful vocals are woven and elegantly dubbed over the mesmerizing atmospheres and stepping beats.
See www.thefrequencylab.com for more details.

Monk Fly never fails to impress with his live performances so expect smokin’, soul filled grooves and cutting edge, future funk!

Also joining the Headroom posse for this beat frenzy we have Kodama.

Kodama previously founded the antipodean bass portal, southernsteppa.com which played a large role in pushing the bass heavy sounds of dubstep and grime in Australia and also helped to gain Sydney and Australia some notoriety as a bass player on the scene.

Kodama’s sets consist of moody and intricate beats, soundscapes and bass weaved neatly together with plenty of skill.

This month we are also pleased to have BFG from the Figure 8 crew down for a spin.

BFG is a core member of FIGURE 8, who are the force behind the community space The Push Gallery, a space for perfomers, artists and musos alike. Beyond this physical space, FIGURE 8 have also set up many PAs for many parties and festivals during the last few years.

At HEADROOM, however, this lovely lad will be out the front behind the wheels of steel sharing his finely honed aesthetic of the break and beat in both hip hop and dubstep flavours.

Resident’s on rotation are the mix-tastic Bec Paton and Jonny Faith.
